February of 2004 I was training for my second marathon in North Dakota. While performing the leg press, I felt and heard a loud “crunch” in my right hip. I had suffered from chronic right hip pain with altered sensation down my leg for 5 years prior and like most runners, I had trained harder hoping I would feel better. After this injury in the weight room, I was unable to run and training for the marathon came to a halt.
I attended my first Postural Restoration course taught by Ron Hruska in Minneapolis in the fall of 2003. It completely changed the way I practiced physical therapy and the outcomes with my patients. I decided I would head down to Nebraska to see Ron as a patient and find out if he could help solve my hip problem. I performed the Postural Restoration activities he gave me for four months, and for the first time in six years I had no right hip pain or altered sensation down my leg while running. No other physical therapy approach had helped me before this.
I continued to attend all of the courses taught through the Postural Restoration Institute™ (PRI), and eventually earned the designation of Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) . I assisted teaching physical therapists, physicians, and chiropractors about PRI in North Dakota. This highly integrated approach to the body was not taught in physical therapy school, and I truly feel it is the future of physical therapy. One evening while cooking dinner, I received a call from Ron. He asked if I would consider moving back to Nebraska to work at the Hruska Clinic. With my family and my husband’s family in Nebraska, coupled with working at the Hruska Clinic with peers that were passionate about PRI, my husband and I headed home to Nebraska (and the land of the BIG RED) in August of 2006.
Professionally, I am passionate about teaching PRI to other physical therapists and health professionals, and enjoy working with all my patients with this unique approach. I do have a strong interest in working with runners and also patients with scoliosis.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Cory. Life moments for me have included completing a full marathon, swimming with dolphins, reef sharks and sea turtles, scuba diving in Hawaii, going to Husker football games with my dad, and going for walks at dusk with Cory and our beagles Shawnie and Betsy, enjoying the chirping of the cicadas.
