Baseball
In a sport such as baseball, an athlete is required to rotate throughout many parts of his/her body. The baseball player initiates movements from the feet and it travels from the feet to the hips, torso, and finally, the shoulders and arms. Our bodies are connected in more ways than most of us know. When one has a long standing shoulder injury, chances are the problem in some way or another may be connected to the hips and torso. The hips and torso play a key role in getting the arm in the proper throwing position. The position of one’s pelvis can directly influence the position of the shoulder blade and thus the arm, due to the interconnectedness.
Consultation with a PRI therapist will address the corresponding movement relationships between the upper and lower body segments. Often times the inability to rotate through the hips will increase the strain/demand on the upper extremity during the throwing motion. Working with a PRI therapist will provide the baseball athlete with proper integration between upper and lower body segments to restore proper position of the pelvis, torso, and scapula, which allows the arm to perform successfully.
