Golf
Golf requires the synchronized rotation between both the lower and upper body segments. Hip rotation is very important for an effective golf swing. When proper rotation of your hips occur, this allows one to get their shoulders and arms in position for optimal power and accuracy. Rotation of the hips pulls your upper torso around and gets your lead shoulder into the proper position (the left shoulder in the case of a right hander) at the point of striking the ball. Moreover, this rotation requires one to use their front leg and hip as a pivot around which their upper body can rotate. The inability to pivot through one’s hips encourages a swing that utilizes just your shoulders and arms resulting in a much less powerful, much less coordinated, and much less accurate swing. Consultation with a PRI therapist will address the corresponding movement relationships between the upper and lower body segments. Often times the inability to rotate through the hips and/or “clear the hips” will increase strain/demand on the upper extremity during the golf swing. Furthermore, the inability to “clear the hips” will often result in a hook or slice as it relates to the golf swing. Working with a PRI therapist will provide the golfer with the proper integration between upper and lower body segments to restore proper position of the pelvis, torso, and upper extremity to perform successfully.
