Running

Running athletes often times lack frontal plane (side to side) movement which in turn can cause hip pain, knee pain, shin splints, and low back fatigue. It is not unusual for runners to demonstrate one shoulder that is lower than the other (usually the right), wearing out of the lateral border of their running shoes, an inability to find and feel the right arch of the shoe when striding out, and a left rib flare. Physical therapy evaluation with PRI will address the athlete’s ability to work his or her body in three planes of movement (triplanar) with emphasis on the frontal plane. The runner’s ability to work his or her hamstrings in a functional length of 80-90 degrees, integrate his or her left inner thigh with the right outer hip and left outer abdominals (obliques), and perform functional exercises that are triplanar can not only create a pain free runner, but a faster one as well.
