Soccer
Soccer is one of the most popular team sports in the world. It requires an athlete to perform kicking, twisting and cutting maneuvers throughout the pelvis and hips, thus exposing these areas to stress and potential injury. In addition to injury, these repetitive motions can lead to a pattern of muscular imbalance. A pattern usually develops as one trains or repeats the same movement pattern habitually to contribute to an undesirable asymmetrical activity. PRI therapists have a unique appreciation for the asymmetries that exist in the human body and the tendency towards predictable patterns of movement. They understand that functional performance of a soccer athlete reflects functional strategy of muscle groups to work cooperatively in three biomechanical planes when the athlete is positioned in repetitive asymmetrical patterns. At the Hruska Clinic, our PRI therapists will assess the soccer athlete’s ability to adduct and abduct both hips and move his/her arms and legs reciprocally, thus maximizing functional performance and preventing injury. Specific exercise techniques will be provided to avoid injury and address underutilized and underdeveloped muscle groups. Specific tests and performance enhancement techniques should assist the athlete in minimizing pathomechanic patterns.
